We are experiencing significant growth and are looking for someone for the following position to join our dynamic and fast-growing team:

Position: Vice-President, Engineering

Location: Oakland, CA; Nashville, TN; or remote by exception

Overview:
Reporting to the SVP Engineering & Construction, the Vice President of Engineering is the executive who oversees and executes the power plant design activities of the project engineering team and is responsible for the day-to-day activities of that group. The VP is responsible for assuring adequate staffing for execution of projects, which may be comprised of external resources.

Main Responsibilities:
Managerial

  • Provide technical direction workload and assignments to engineers and contractors in the execution of PV design scope of work.
  • Help manage relationships with outside consultants including IEs and OEs to integrate into the available capacity of the team.
  • Assure that the following milestone meetings occur:
    • Value Engineering and Constructability Reviews
    • Construction plan Page Turn prior to mobilization
    • Development to EPC handoffs pass a readiness check
  • Continuous engineering process improvement and assure that Quality Control/Quality Assurance processes are developed and implemented.
  • Work with the project team and group leaders to develop engineering deliverables’ schedules that align with the overall project schedule.
  • Understand the terms of the Interconnection Agreement, the PPA, and Subcontractor Agreement as they impact the Engineering deliverables and support.
  • Prepare weekly project status updates of engineering design and critical issues.
  • Assist in the creation of project metrics and feedback loops of lessons learned and historic costs.
  • Support construction activities through timely responses to field questions, clarification of design approaches and evaluation of alternate designs.
  • Development of resource planning for medium- and long-term project needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the strategic technology plan and comprehensive equipment road map.
  • Support the Development team with the assessment of mid and late-stage Development projects.
  • Interface with the project management and operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operations. Ensure timely and complete transfer of technical responsibilities.
  • Conduct site visits as necessary to support project execution teams as well as long term operations and maintenance.

Leadership

  • Attract, develop, mentor, and retain an Engineering team as required to deliver an expanding regional and national footprint of PV Solar and BESS Facilities.
  • Mentor and educate team on changing trends in technology, best practices, and safety.
  • Work in conjunction with the SVP of Engineering and Construction to establish and evolve the vision for SRC’s Engineering department.

Technical/Design

  • Lead oversight of all Power Plant Design efforts of subcontractors and subconsultants starting at final handoff from the SR Development.
  • Perform preliminary energy production and performance modeling for PV and PV+BESS systems including meteorological assessment and P-50/P-90 analysis Engineering Support.
  • Ensure all work carried out within agreed schedules, and budgets.
  • Identify and execute value engineering opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain company design and engineering standards.
  • Participate in major equipment selection and technical vetting.
  • Support review of I&C Block and interconnection diagrams Support review of I&C System specs and drawings to assure compliance with codes and contracts.
  • Collaborate with Asset Management team to troubleshoot existing systems or develop repair and remediation plans.
  • Manage technical support to supply chain activities in terms of preparation of technical specifications, bid evaluations and vendor submittal reviews.
  • Maintain current industry knowledge of technology advances.
  • Support technical design reviews for Solar Plants and Substations including reviews of drawings, calculations, and reports to ensure compliance with applicable codes and contracts.

Business, Commercial, and Contracts

  • Review contracts and summarize electrical system design requirements.
  • RFP support services, including proposal design reviews.
  • Manage technical support to supply chain activities in terms of preparation of technical specifications, bid evaluations and vendor submittal reviews.
  • Manage relationships and support of screening of various equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms.

The position will require interaction with clients including utilities, financial institutions, off-takers, investors, government agencies, and other organizations. Candidate must be capable of working in multi-disciplinary teams, identify and understand client issues, and work collaboratively to develop and communicate creative solutions. The position suits a person with initiative who is prepared to “roll up their sleeves” to get the job done in a high paced, dynamic environment.

Reporting: SVP Engineering and Construction

Anticipated Travel : <20% as necessary

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering; MBA desirable.

Licenses: PE license preferred

Experience:

  • 20+ years of relevant work experience (10+ years of specific relevant PV Solar Design and EPC execution).
  • Experience in the design of Instrumentation and Controls systems for power plants a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience, with the ability to lead and interact with engineers and designers with clearly established expectations.
  • Proven track record and experience in successfully leading the efforts of an Engineering team of more than 15 technical staff in the orchestrated execution of design and oversight of external EPC contractors as well as Engineering and other Technical Subconsultants.
  • Must have experience in and be able to estimate man-hours required for completion of work and successfully prioritize and assign work per schedule requirements.
  • Experience with design of PV projects, strong technical understanding of solar power systems and solar inverter technologies.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Box, Procore. Working knowledge of PVsyst, AutoCAD, PSSE, ETAP design tools. Experience with SCADA and DAS.
  • Experience on HV interaction with transmission owners/agencies for design and permitting.
  • Familiar with solar array construction techniques, installation practices and plant start-up requirements.
  • Knowledge of the ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NEC and other industry codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Familiar with and able to specify high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment.
  • Experience with Interconnections, and interfacing with utilities.
  • Comfortable presenting to and interacting with consultants, authorities with jurisdiction, and regulatory agencies.
