Position: Development Engineer
Location: Nashville, TN preferred.
This person will act as the internal technical and civil expert within the Silicon Ranch development team, managing plant design, civil issues and general technical and “constructability” questions that arise in the development phase of the company’s projects. This includes bidding out pieces of work, selecting and managing technical consultants. This position will lead pre-construction aspects of civil and structural design for solar photovoltaic, gen-tie and substation projects focused on conceptual/”for permitting” design, civil/grading design and review. A focus on design optimization for cost reduction and improved efficiencies is required. The position will include a wide variety of diverse assignments including: due diligence, siting, feasibility reviews, project proposal evaluation, conceptual design and cost estimates. The position will entail interaction with clients including: EPC contractors, consultants, permitting agencies, utilities, government agencies, and other organizations.
Essential responsibilities will include: project development support including research and site selection, survey, geotechnical investigations, civil design review and analysis, project layout, transmission structure reviews, substation layout reviews, environmental and local permitting support, etc. Coordinate work with others in multi-disciplinary teams. Identify and understand client and project issues, and work collaboratively to develop and communicate creative solutions.
Reports to: SVP, Development
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering required; Additional educational qualifications such as a PE or PMP desired.
Experience: 4+ years of work experience in solar or wind development, power plant and/or substation or transmission line design and development. Familiarity with large scale solar power plant design and construction greatly preferred.
Technical: Exposure or experience to the US energy market and design-build projects would be a benefit.
