Litchfield, CT (May 19, 2020) –Silicon Ranch, one of the nation’s largest independent solar power producers, today announced a partnership with Eversource and United Illuminating Company to supply the Litchfield community with 20 megawatts (MWac) of clean, cost-effective solar power by July 2022.
Silicon Ranch will fund the construction of the facility and will own and operate the plant for the long-term, as it does with every project it develops across the country.
The Litchfield solar project will include more than 55,000 photovoltaic modules mounted on NEXTracker’s low impact fixed tilt racking system. Once complete, this solar farm will be one of the largest in Connecticut.
The construction phase of this world-class facility is expected to support more than 250 jobs, many of which will be filled with local labor and subcontractors and will inject millions of dollars of labor-related income into the local economy.
“At Silicon Ranch, a commitment to the communities we serve lies at the heart of our company’s core values,” said, Reagan Farr, Silicon Ranch Co-Founder and CEO. “We believe that solar projects can create enduring value and deliver a meaningful legacy for their communities, and we thank Eversource and UI for making this investment in Litchfield possible.”
This partnership will bring value to the Litchfield community that is over and above the significant value of a renewable energy project alone through its incorporation of Regenerative Energy™, Silicon Ranch’s outcome-driven standard of excellence for the design, construction, and operation of solar farms. Regenerative EnergyTM co-locates renewable energy generation and regenerative agriculture production on lands housing solar projects. The platform leverages holistic planned grazing of livestock to manage vegetation, revitalize degraded soils, enhance biodiversity, improve water quality, and sequester carbon in the soil, while restoring functioning grasslands and helping meet demand for local food. Quantifiable ecological, economic, and social outcomes of Regenerative Energy™ are backed by third-party verified standards.
