Project Details

This 8 MWac photovoltaic solar system was built in 2012 and provides 13.5 GWh annually to VW’s Chattanooga manufacturing and assembly plant. The ground mounted solar installation covers approximately 60 acres and uses over 33,000 solar panels to generate clean, renewable energy that supports VW’s “Think Blue” global sustainability commitment.

Direct feed allows VW to retain the environmental attributes associated with renewable energy production and market the benefits.

VW’s Chattanooga assembly plant is the first and only LEED® Platinum automotive manufacturing plant in the world to be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council. VW used large-scale, on-site generation to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
