Paris Solar Farm – Puryear

Summary

Built, owned, and operated by Silicon Ranch on behalf of Paris Board of Public Utilities (Paris BPU), the Paris Solar Farm – Puryear is one of the standout successes of Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Generation Flexibility Program. This program allows local power companies to generate up to 5% of the energy they provide to customers themselves. This is significant for local power companies and utilities in the Tennessee Valley because they have historically had to purchase all the electricity they distribute to homes and businesses from TVA. This solar farm generates 6.75 MWAC of clean renewable electricity, enough to power more than 1,000 Tennessee homes annually, and offers cost savings that help to support rate stability.

In the Community

Silicon Ranch’s carbon solutions platform, Clearloop, and Rivian, an American builder of all-electric vehicles, partnered to support 1MW of the electricity generated at the project. This electricity is enough to power every one of Rivian’s new electric vehicle charging stations in Tennessee with 100% new, clean, renewable energy, including the charging station in Paris. It is located at the city’s iconic Eiffel Tower Park. Paris  BPU, Clearloop, Rivian, and Silicon Ranch partnered to hold a public “First Charge” event in Eiffel Tower Park to celebrate the commencement of Paris Solar Farm operations and to unveil the flagship Rivian Waypoints electric vehicle charging station. The event drew crowds from throughout the community, including hundreds of students from the local high school.  The experience inspired an ongoing collaboration between the solar project and the school and led to a “Clean Tech Careers Panel Event”.

Chris Hansen, TVA Vice President Origination and Renewable Solutions
“The completion of this solar project in Henry County marks the beginning of a new era for Paris BPU as an even more resilient power company for our community. We’re proud to be leading clean energy efforts and providing solar-generated power to our local industries and customers. This project wouldn’t have been possible without our trusted partner, Silicon Ranch. And we encourage others in the community to support the push towards locally generated, diversified, sustainable energy sources.”
